Ring-a-ring-a-roses

I just love rings. I really do. If I could I would wear a ring on every finger. But maybe that's a bit of an overdose. I also do like the new trend of rings with chains that connect to a bracelet or another ring. Yes I know I'm so technical.

Jacey Withers Feather Ring - $198.09
Marble Spinning Ring by Minkpink - $34
Lola Rose Blue Sandstone Skylar Ring - $217.26
Evil Eye Hand Comb by Low Luv - $109
House Of Harlow 1960 Long Arrow Ring - $119.81
River Island Cobra Ring -$12.76
ASOS Pirate Ship Ring - $9.59
ASOS Double Finger Sausage Dog Ring - $12.78

As you can see I particularly like this Evil Eye Hand Comb that I found whilst browsing Market HQ. The piece is actually from US model Erin Wasson's Low Luv collection, so you know its definitely in line with current fashion trends. Same goes with the House of Harlow piece. I think all of Nicole's pieces are amazing.

Windsor Smith: Simple maths = shoe lust

All through school you often question 'am I really going to use this maths in my everyday life' well yes Hollee yes you are. After getting some inspiration from Margaret over at shine by three and her latest post I thought I'd do a kind of fashion mathematics post. Ohh my university maths lecturer would be so proud if he could see me right now.

Siren -Deco Purple ($139.95)
+
KG Hot Strappy Platform Sandals ($223.65)
=
Windsor Smith - Hana Green/Purple ($139.95)

I absolutely love these Windsor Smith shoes. I don't think I can even count the number of times I have been near a shoe shop and had to stop to look at these puppies. Then have to use a tremendous amount of will power to leave the shop without two new pairs of shoes. Yeah I know right props to me!

Diavolina - Milo Orange ($179.95)
Windsor Smith - Kaos Fuchsia ($149.95)
=
Windsor Smith - Hana Orange/Fuchsia ($139.95)

I get the feeling that its not going to work their way into my shoe collection soon enough. It's kind of one of those things that's just inevitable, but that's okay. I just can't decide which ones I like better. And I guess the moral of this post is that yes, in fact, mathematics is useful in fashion, so you should listen to your teacher (yes I say that also because I am going to be one).

A little ray of sunshine.

The beautiful Sydney weather we have been experiencing this past few weeks (yes summer is a coming)has inspired a post about all things yellow. Not mellow yellow. Spring is in full bloom. Yellow has been making a big impact at all the recent fashion week festivities. Think bright and beautiful.

KG Elizabeth platform court shoe - $223.65
Sessun Reyna Wool Cape with Hood - $319.50
ASOS Premium Sequin Collar - $39.95
ASOS Yellow Chunky Rope Bracelet - $15.98
Les Nereides Double La Diamantine Ring (ASOS) - RRP $103.84
OPI Need Sunglasses Nail Lacquer - $19.95
O'Clock Silicon Watch - $47.93
Cheap Monday Narrow Moss Ice Jeans - $90.00

Shoes: I like to think of it as a collection, not an addiction.

One thing you'll learn about me pretty quickly is that shoes are one of my great weaknesses. Another thing you'll learn is that I am not at all challenged in the height department. So when you put these two things together it results me having what I like to call a collection (not an addiction)of shoes. Lots of shoes. I have a particular weakness for heels, but as my two best friends are... well kind of challenged in the height department I never really get the chance to wear all my heels. I think the phrase "I will not buy another pair of boots until next season" has been muttered numerous times before a shopping exposition only to return home with more boots. So my boots always start out nicely lined up against the wall next to my wardrobe but quickly end up like this (avert your eyes to the picture below).

So my grand idea to fix it was to construct a kind of floating shelve to put my boots and heels on so they were still on display, but not just thrown all over the floor. One of the worst things, for my bank account, about where I live is the fact that it's only ten minutes from ikea. So I headed there for the sole purpose of buying these floating shelves. They were $20 each and I wanted 2 at the most. So long story short, I leave ikea an hour later and $200 lacking in my bank account. But in saying this I am uber happy with the result and my shoe storage or display, yeah I like to call it more of a display.

Having an ikea so close to me means that I am now an expert flat pack put-together-er (yes for the purpose of this post that is a word). So I sat down armed with my allen key, some hommus and carrot sticks and some recent episodes of Keeping up with the Kardashians and pretty much dominated the assembling of this little shelving unit.

NYFW: My favourite outfits

This week I came to the realisation that i have some major jealousy issues that I should probably attend to. But I guess most girls who weren't at New York fashion week would have been suffering some sort of FOMO or jealousy this last week. Twitter and the blogger world was a constant buzz this week with ever exciting updates and photos.

Naturally some of my favourite bloggers turned it up in the outfit stakes so I wanted to share my favourite outfits with you. Obviously you could never go past The Man Repeller, Eatsleepwear and The Glamourai but I'm also loving everything about Natalie Off Duty at the moment too.

It seems that trending fashion bits from these wonderful girlies include Maroon as seen on Nat and Claire and brights and colour blocking effortlessly pulled off by nicole.

My favoutire peice would have to be Natalie's (Natalie Off Duty) skirt, I think it looks just beautiful. And my favourite shoes I absoloutley cant go past Claire's (De Lune) awesome lepord print booties. And if you've read my previous posts you know I'm a sucker for booties and ankle boots and well Claire put them together to form the perfect outfit. I love her skirt too (check out her blog for a dress in a similar style that is also amazing), and her hair, shes just beautiful all together!

So in the end I guess one jealous little girl with some terrible outfit envy. But I also see some DIY outfit potential. Look out for a post coming soon.

Have a lovely day..

Inspiration: Jordan of Oh Happy Day!

One of the main influences on me actually deciding to start this blog after thinking about it for a little while was me discovering Oh Happy Day! Jordan the lady that runs this site in my opinion is amazing. After seeing one of her pinata DIYs on pin-interest I found myself sitting at my laptop going over every single post this lady has ever made!!

I found the website in the week before my best friends Ilsa's 21st birthday party. In the next week after finding the website I completed 3 of Jordan's DIYs for Ilsa's party.

The pinata was probably the most time consuming and I ambitiously decided to make a large 21 and have an intricate colour scheme going on. It also saddened me a bit that after all my hard work it was just going to be "smashed the shit out of" But boy did we have fun doing that!!

Me with the pinata

We had already wanted to do a photo booth at the party just for fun cos we have always loved taking photos but when I found Jordan's photbooth props it just cemented the idea!! The booth was a hit at the party that's for sure, and I also think it will be a great memory for Ils.

I even came up with the idea to have Ilsa over earlier in the week and take photo booth photos on our own and then I turned the photos into a present for her (along with a Kings of Leon shirt). We had to put Ils on a piece of wood cos shes a shorty and at one stage she fell off and almost ended up with a stump of wood in places it shouldn't be.

And the third DIY was a simple popout card tutorial. For some reason I have always struggeled with the concept of pop up cards but Ilsa and I always give each other very creative cards so finding this tutorial was amazing! I forgot to take a photo of the card before I gave it to her(pretty much because I was working on it right until the minute she came to pick me up to go to the hotel the day of her party) so I'll just show you the card she gave me this year instead.

We like Kings of Leon incase you didn't notice

The main point of this is not only to show you Jordan's site but also to thank her for being such an amazing source of inspiration for me!!

Scissors: Inspiration and projects

Over the weekend, I guess partly because I didn't have my laptop my mum and I finally got around to cleaning our the spare room and turning it into my craft room (pictures to follow). I'm really happy with how it turned out, all my craft and DIY supplies are nicely organised in the cupboard and the sewing machine is now easily accessible and not in the corner somewhere.

Anyway this new craft room has finally allowed me a space all of my own to carry out my projects. So in honor of that I thought I'd show you some of my upcoming projects.

I found  the top two inspirations in a folder from my old computer called ideas, I guess I've always had a DIY mind, so I'm not sure who to credit them too. They are  Both pretty simple DIYs its just a matter of me getting the things I need to do them. Im thinking for the shirt I will make it a combination of sewing on the tulle for the skirt and using fabric paint to paint the legs.

The bottom two inspirations are both projects I've seen some of my favourite bloggers do. Ages ago I found this awesome jumper from a  thrift store, its a qwirky green and black pattern, problem was that it had a really high neck and when I wore it I felt like it was strangling me. I had thought of cutting it into a V-neck but wasn't 100% sure thats what I wanted to do but then I saw how lionstigersandfashionohmy made one of her jumpers into a cardigan, um genius idea in my opinion!

As you already know my laptop went in over the weekend to get repaired (I got it back today and they replaced the harddrive and transferred all everything from my old harddrive to the new one, I was over the moon I didnt have to back it up myself) so I thought maybe my laptop deserved some TLC. I saw this tutorial on sweet verbena a little while back, and now its just a matter of going to spotlight to get some leather to do it.

Shoes: Fashions Night Out Sydney

On thursday night after some last minute dinner cancellations and a split second decision it was off to Vogues FNO. Well that was after a quick trip to toshiba to hand over my laptop for repairs (I know I cried a little inside when I handed it over). I was lucky enough to spend the night with my beautiful friend from uni Megan. She had a bit of a fangirl moment when she saw Hayden from Masterchef giggling and all. After that I took her for her first Zara experience, and lost her pretty quickly in there.

I'm actually pretty proud of myself as I controlled my spending and stuck to my budget, not so proud of myself because I was so excited to be there that I forgot to take many photos oops. We were also treated to free manicures in Sportsgirl which was lovely!

Shoes: Ankle boots

One of my new favourite shoes obsessions (which I have a lot of I might add) is the ankle boot. I just love love love them. I sometimes wish that I was a little bit shorter so I could wear really high heeled booties, but I'm am ever so blessed with the genes for great height. These are some of my favourite ankle boots around at the moment.

Spoons: Mini Passionfruit Meringue Pies

Passionfruit is one of my all time favourite fruits, favourite anythings really. So when my mum came home from my great aunties with a large shopping bag full of them I was in heaven, heaven until I realised that my great uncle has picked them before they were ripe, so there was still a couple of weeks to wait. So this weekend we found that almost all of the passionfruits were ripe and we now had an overabundance of them sitting in my kitchen, I'm talking like 30 or 35 passionfruits.

Naturally my instinct was hmmm what can I make with these, having made some lemon sorbet the night before (I'll post the recipe later) passionfruit sorbet was definately on the menu. However I wanted to make something else as well hence enter the Mini Passionfruit Meringue Pies. This recipe is adapted from a nestle advertisement recipe cards and is just one of the yummiest things ever.

What you'll need:
  • 3/4 cup of sweetened Condensed milk (I try to look after my hips and use light condensed milk
  • 1/4 cup of passionfruit pulp (or just over)
  • 2 eggs, seperated
  • Mini pastry cases (I'm not gonna lie I bought them instead of making them
  • 1/3 cup of caster sugar

Now you should do this:
1. Preheat your oven to about 180°C. You know how your oven works so you can change this if you need too.

2. Mix your condensed milk, passionfruit pulp and egg yolks together in a bowl. Make sure to mix well at this stage and set aside for later.

3. To make the meringue you need to beat the egg-whites until they form stiff peaks, once this occurs you can gradually beat in the sugar until it is all dissolved and the mixture looks thick and fluffy and lovely, kinda like clouds oh and that picture below.

4. now that you have all parts of the pie prepared, (oh and if your a little less lazy than me you should have already had your pastry cases made) firstly spoon the passion fruit filling equally into the cases first, followed by the meringue mixture on top. It's a good idea for the meringue to use a little scraper to help you 'sculpt'...sculpt?... yepp lets go with sculpt, sculpt your meringue.

5. Bake for about 10 or 12 minutes or until your oven makes those cute meringue sculptures (yes sculptures) light and golden

6. Enjoy!!!

7. Confess to your blog that you ate all the pies before you thought of taking a photo to show people. Sorry they were just too yummy!!

Scissors: Jewellery is one of my weaknesses

I'll set the scene first. My necklaces used to hang off the picture rail and always get tangled, my rings used to get thrown where ever they were taken off and my earrings were lucky to find their little box where they were finished with.
I had seen this DIY on a couple of sites and have been waiting to find the perfect frame for it. I found this, what I assume is a spice rack, at the markets one morning and was so excited to get home and try it out for myself.
Yes that's my beautiful purple shag carpet in the background.

The shelves were a bit small to fit any jewellery in so first up was to cut every second column out. So you don’t get mixed up its a good idea to mark which shelves you are cutting out with a black marker. I ended up using tin snips which easily cut the column making it a simple job to just pull out the shelve.

Next up it was time to spray paint the Shelve. To keep in theme with my room I went for black spray paint and it wasn’t difficult to get a good finish. I forgot to take a photo of the shelves after spray painting, but I’m sure you can use your imagination to see what it looks like.

Putting in the hooks was the hardest and most tedious part of this whole DIY project. It took so long for me  my mum to get them all in, I just couldn’t get my the hooks turning the right way. It makes it alot easier if you use a screwdriver or letter opener to start the wholes off before twisting the hooks in.

And the last thing to do is hand your jewellery up. Guess I will just have to buy more to fill it up.

Ta daaa
